Opportunity knocks for youth interested in technology

Young Capetonians looking to make their mark in the booming world of technology are urged to sign up for the ICT Kickstarter programme, which will be facilitated by the City’s Strategic Business Partner, Cape Innovation & Technology Initiative (CiTi).
This three-month programme is fully funded by the City and will cover entry-level ICT skills as well as personal and professional development modules.
In recent years, Cape Town has gained a reputation as a hub for the innovation and technology sector, thanks in part to local government support for training and upskilling initiatives. Between 40 000 and 50 000 people are employed in the Mother City’s DigiTech industry.
With the ICT Kickstarter programme, more Capetonian youths will have a chance to join this exciting industry.
The full-time programme will allow you to work with peers, participate in group learning, and practise your problem-solving skills to prepare you for the world of work.
How do you know if you should sign up?
• You’re open to critical feedback aimed at helping you to develop and learn
• You’re interested in learning about administration and communication in the workplace and getting to grips with the nitty-gritty of computers
• You’re excited by the prospect of honing your digital skills
• You want to develop work-ready skills
• You are a logical, clear thinker and a problem-solver
To apply, you need to meet the following criteria:
• Must be a South African citizen
• Currently unemployed
• Be between the ages 18 and 28
• Have a minimum of a Matric National Senior Certificate
• Preference will be given to Black, Coloured, and Asian racial groups
• Be based in the City of Cape Town metropole area
• Be able to attend full-time training from Mondays to Fridays
• Be available from January to March 2022
